Pets oddities

Angel asked in her blog about readers pets strange activities.

Well Ben sleeps with his legs in the air...

And Holly does, what we affectionately call her St. Vitus dance. That is when you groom her she madly dashes around and barks...

Why not visit Angels blog (linked above) and share your pets peculiarities...

My dogs speak english

Got up this morning and first thing I did was open the gate to the garden for the dogs. Ben usually charges off. This morning he turned round and went back into the house. I called him back out and he just stood there looking at me.

I noticed how of late he has gone quite grey.

He turned back into the house. I was quite concerned about this change in behaviour and so I went into the bedroom and woke Mrs K up and told her about Ben's strange behaviour. He at this point was lying at the foot of the bed.

As I left the room I said to Mrs K
"Let me feed him and if he doesn't want to eat then we will take him to the vet."

On the word "vet" he jumped quickly up and followed me into the kitchen and ate every morsel of food.
It was funny.

Random photo's

I really like these photo's (taken last year) which capture the spirit of my doggies.

The first, of Ben, was after a heavy snowfall. Which rarely happens btw. Doggies seem to love snow. They ran outside and had giddy fun. Doesn't Ben look happy.

And this is Holly in the yard; I know that look in her eye, she is gearing up to bark at me.

Old mother Holly

Well Benny and Holly arrived safely back from the kennels, though we are not using them again (I'll save that story for another post.)

They only sulked for about 48 hours but they didnt half smell. So yes, bath time again on sunday.

After they have been bathed, we wrap them up in fleece blankets until they regain their full body warmth.

This is Holly all wrapped up!!

The boy has not been well

By Kahless

Last weekend Ben got a stomach upset and was unable to control his bottom so much he had bad diarrhoea all over the lounge.
We took him to the vet who gave him an anti spasmodic injection and we had to starve him for 24 hours then introduce a special vet food for 4 days. It was half rations too.
His stomach is much better now but he is feeling very sorry for himself. He has had no doggy treats all week and has lost weight. We are trying to re-introduce normal food gradually.
He looks at me with sad eyes. He is getting loads of cuddles though, but he doesnt understand.
Poor Ben.
And even worse he goes into kennels on Sunday, so I hope he will be alright.

Quirky us

by Ben and Holly

Mr Milo who lives with Katy has tagged us to tell you all a little more about us.

The rules: Post these rules on your blog and links where appropriate. Share six non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself. Tag six random people and let them know they've been tagged.

Our habits:

+ [Holly] when I wag my tail (which is most of the time) my bum moves in rhythm too.
+ [Holly] if Kahless isn't giving me the attention I want then I nip her bum.
+ [Holly] I go to the toilet on the command "go wee-wees"
+ [Holly] I get BO under my arms and have cheesy smelling feet.
+ [Holly] I wake Kahless up in the mornings so that she can let us out - Ben goes out straight away but I don't. So I wake her up for Ben, not me!
+ [Holly] I let Ben eat his treat first and watch him. When he has finished I bark at him and make him watch me eating mine.

+ [Ben] I let Holly think she is top dog, but the reality is I always get my own way and do what I want to do, when I want to do it.
+ [Ben] I can get attention off Kahless by just glaring at her; she worries when I do that and fusses over me.
+ [Ben] I won't go to the toilet if I think anyone is watching me.
+ [Ben] I never growl or bare my teeth.
+ [Ben] When mommy1 and mommy2 go out I get onto their bed and kick their pillows onto the floor and fluff up the duvet too.
+ [Ben] I hide away if I hear a baby crying on the telly.

We think everyone has already been tagged so we won't tag anyone else! (See, we like to break rules!)

A question

by Kahless

Fellow dog lovers I have a question because I am a little worried about my boy Ben.

He is multing a hell of a lot (I have never noticed it to be this bad) and his coat is really dull and lacklustre and lacking its normally slightly oily feel.

Should I take him to the vets? I am worried the vet will be dismissive.
Or is it a normal thing for this time of year as he gets older?

Christmas Fun

by Kahless.

Apologies for the quality but these pictures are frames from video footage. They were taken from some play fun we had on Christmas Eve.

Go on, throw the toy Kahless.
Now Ben wants to get in on the act... throw the toy QUICK!

No worries, I prefer a kiss to playing ball!

Playing with Doggies

by Kahless.

I got in from work this afternoon and the doggies were so excited to see little 'ole me. Unadulterated joy on their faces. They were jumping over themselves to greet me. Then they followed me around whilst I put the kettle on and changed. Holly nipped my bottom to let me know she was at my side!

I looked at them and realised that I havent been giving them as much attention as I should have, of late. Look at their faces...

Don't they look so happy after I have played with them.

So I spent some quality time playing with them tonight and giving them attention.
Holly likes the ball being thrown for her. Her focus is 100% ball.
Ben likes a cuddle. So I throw the ball for Holly and cuddle Ben whilst Holly fetches.
Ben is a perv as he always presents his rump for a rub. He goes all soppy.

Then he decided to play ball with Holly. So I throw the ball and they both compete. Holly runs, Ben bounces like a little puppy.

To see them so happy and thrive on the attention. I must not so be insular in my mind. Fun was had by all. It gave me pleasure to see their pleasure. I love my doggies immensely.

by Ben.

Yesterday I was bathed, which I don't like. Though I always make the most of it by shaking water everywhere at every opportunity. The most fun is when I have just been shampooed; you should hear Kahless cry out "Oh no Ben."...
"Oh yes Kahless, hehehe"

Afterwards we are wrapped up in fleece blankets to keep warm.

Today I made sure I got back to how I like being, by having a good dig in the garden and getting really mucky!

Summer Fun

Summer seems to be a long way away. This is the fun I have in summer. Winter isn't quite so much fun. But I still have fun playing with Holly and Kahless.

Ben is not well

by Kahless.

I discovered this morning, by chance, that the boy's urine looked odd (when he pee'd in the yard.) I dabbed a tissue in it and it was very red (blood.) We dashed him to the vets and when Tony (the vet) examined him - feeling his bladder - he whinced. Tony believes it to be an infection so hopefully the anti-biotics will work.

Our poor boy.

An embarassing story

by Ben.

After I chose to live in the Kahless household, mummy1 and mummy2 took me to the vets to get my bollocks chopped off. Apparently its meant to stop my wanderlust and what responsible dog owners do to stop unwanted puppies if I ever got lucky.

So I had my operation and went home to recouperate. On the saturday morning Kahless spotted that I had a large swelling near my operation site and when she called mummy1 over, she was really worried and thought something had gone wrong, maybe an infection.

So they took me very quickly down the vets. I was lifted onto the examination table and the vet had a quick look, then started cuddling me and stroking me. He didn't look up at mummy1 or mummy2 but they were real anxious.

Then he said to me, very softly as he stroked me, "Well my Ben, are you or I going to explain to your mummies about the birds and the bees..."

Oops. They went bright red and hot-footed it out of their pretty damn quickly!

A Telling Tail

by Holly

I read this today...

The direction of your dog's tail wags may tell you what's going on at the other end, in his brain. Researchers found that dogs consistently wag their tails to the right at the sight of something pleasing and familiar -- their owners, for example. A dog's left brain, like a human one, deals with positive emotions. And because the left brain controls the right side of the body, happy excitement will send a pup's tail wagging to the right. Tails take a left turn when dogs greet someone less familiar or when they encounter intimidating behavior in other dogs. Wagging to the left reflects feelings like fear and anxiety.

Which way does your tail wag?

by Ben.
Its just a little scratch really, though I dont mind the attention.

I am not stupid you know

by Ben.

I am not stupid and I can understand human-tongue.

Yesterday, I overheard Kahless speaking with mommy1 about us going into kennels next month. Kennels; oh no. I HATE it. It is cold. It is stark and has no home comforts. I am not a happy doggie.

This also means a vets trip for some horrible liquid that is shoved up my nose. It is unpleasant.

So I sought out and opportunity to express my displeasure.

I thought Kahless wasn't watching. I snook up behind Holly and licked her bottom - not something that I normally do; only in extreme circumstances you know. I then siddled up to Kahless and attempted to give her a kiss. Unfortunately she spotted my dastardly plan and backed off. Damn. Foiled at the last hurdle. Never fear though, I will have to think up some other cunning method to let her know my displeasure.

Some old pictures

by Holly.

Mummy Kahless was going through some old photographs this afternoon and I asked her if she would share with you some photo's of when we were younger.

This one, of me, was taken in our old house, about 4-5 years ago. I love lounging about in the summer, taking the sun in.

I like curling up into all spaces.

This second picture, of brother Ben, was taken in winter about 5 years ago; a little bit of snow and he just blends into the background. His left ear is flopped over; giving the impression that he is alert.

A funny Picture

Anxious Wednesday

by Ben.

Tonight I am anxious and I am trying to get some sleep, though I don't feel restful. Mommy 1 (I think you know her as Mrs Kahless) is not at home tonight. She rarely leaves the pack and I just can't settle when she is not around. I am not lying in my usual place tonight as I think it important that I make the statement that I am not happy about the situation. I hope she comes home soon. I miss her.

Sleepy Sunday

by Holly.

Sunday is a day of rest for me and my brother Ben.

Kahless was busy out front where I couldn't see her, which I wasn't best pleased about as I like to keep an eye on her.
Nevertheless, Ben and I made sure we snoozed the day away.

I am quite happy to perch on the end of the bed, but Ben likes to move Kahless' pillows about so his feet are on one and his head on another.

Sunday Morning

By Ben.

Holly woke me up this morning. I was deep in dream land, chasing a rabbit, snuggled into my mommy (kahless) on the bed, when Holly stepped all over me on her way to waking everyone up with her peer into ya face routine.

Jumped straight up though as hunting to be done and territory to be checked upon. After a quick stretch and yawn, I'm at the back gate waiting to be let up the field. A quick run round the perimeter (I couldn't see much as the rain clouds were low this morning) and I was back for breakfast.

Now coming in from the rain means I have to be towelled down. I always push past Holly to get the rub down first, afterall I am the man of the house. Now Kahless always says to me 'Make way women and children, Ben first' - I dont know what point she is trying to make, so I just ignore her. My favourite part of the towelling is when my rump is rubbed; I go all un-necessary with a big smile on my face and a wiggle of my bum.

(oh and maybe worth mentioning I snook into the house before Kahless heard me and had a good shake of my muddy wetness all over the hall....Tehehee!)

Now breakfast comprised of some Pedigree Chicken in Gravy, a couple of pieces of bacon rind and a sprinkling of tinned tuna. Strange combination, I only ate some of it as I know I can pester for some biscuit treats at lunchtime.

These are some of my favourite...

Hello friends

Hello everyone.

My name is Ben and I am about 7 years old. I am a laid back boy who takes life in my stride (though I can be a bit nervy at times, but I try to hide it.)

Just so you know a little more about me let me tell you about my likes and dislikes....

- My favourite treat is Dentastix I am allowed only one a day otherwise I get constipated !

- My favourite game is catching rabbits. My tally is 3 so far this season.

- My most annoying habit is rolling in fox dung. It helps me blend in when stalking rabbits.

- My most distinguishing feature is my cute floppy ears.

- I love my rump being scratched.

Keep reading this blog to catch up with my expolits.
